So let’s pretend you are given the winning ticket for the 900 million dollar lottery. After taxes you’re down to 500 million, still a redicu lous sum of money. What sort of automotive fantasies or dreams would you make a reality? What sort of automotive insanity would you indulge yourself with? Hit me up with your craziest stuff. I already known what Zoidberg would do; buy ALL the Tercel’s!

Big shop with a lift, then I’ll start an Automotive “Business” renting cars to Movie Studios to justify my Automotive

I get another Allroad. Thats probably all I could afford.

Honda NBC110 (postie bike)

I’d get a Ute:
new family hauler
an offroad toy

I’d buy up 80 acres and make a Rally playground, which also gives me an excuse to buy a back hoe, and a big ass tracker. I’d have a wharehouse and 3 lift shop for storing, and working on my cars. I’d turn it into a business to recoup some of the money. I’d Host RallyX events on weekends, maybe even buy up some WRXs, Fiestas and GT86s , with big beefy rollcages and bash bares, and have them as “ Rally rentals” for those that don’t want to ricks their daily, plus I could use them in my free time.

I would pay for the transmission rebuild on my 03 Odyssey.
![]() 10/19/2018 at 08:54 |

I would finally buy a decent truck, fix my Firebird, finish my 1953 Chevy pickup, add an addition onto my crazy house, fix the garage so it’s useable at my house, get my engineering degree with a lot less stress in my life. You know, reasonable things. I have thought about this too many times.

I’d race Indy cars for the rest of my life. Even on a 1% interest return, I could bring 5MM to the table each year to find a seat. Pay to drive all the way.
![]() 10/19/2018 at 08:57 |

Pay off my current car, then buy a Shelby GT350, a Volvo XC60, a Yamaha XSR 900, and an Indian Chieftain Dark H orse. A nice little collection of vehicles that would be manageble to maintain, and I would be willing to take nearly anywhere.

The easiest thing is to pull a Factory Five and start a niche kit or custom-building business. Just... hard to figure out what to reproduce. Or, one could pull a ‘70s Stutz move and just start building handmades according to whatever lulz can be had with a defunct brand. I wonder what the Packard name is worth...

That money would be more than enough
for a 50+ft Hallberg Rassy boat with enough electronic smarts to let me sail it with my pinky, along with an endless supply of booze to keep the drinks
locker stuffed all the time. Shore trips would take place on an electric bike that could be ferried easily on a dinghy.

Nothing crazy. Invest half, retire. Move out west with a nice place and big plot of land. Buy a couple dreams cars, but travel often and rent some cooler ones. For example, I’m not interested in owning old Ferraris, but renting one and driving up the Amalfi coast to the alps sounds like a swell trip. Probably use money and time to invest in open land access for outdoor recreation all over the states... like buying large plots that some business would buy and build or drill on, and just put my name on it or sell it back to the Forestry Service or whatever for a dollar.
![]() 10/19/2018 at 09:07 |

I’d buy land soemwhere where I could have my own fiefdom, and probably just cruise around on little motorcycles.

I am going to create my own car museum to house my collection of too
many cars. Then I am going to start making replacement parts for the

BBC / PBS rented my truck last week for use in their Autumnwatch show. I *might* have posted about it here once or twice. It didn’t pay enough for me to quit my day job, you know, but at least I’m a little more justified in owning a fourth vehicle that I can’t drive daily for kid hauling.

I have a friend who owns a late 70s land yacht he makes enough renting out to movie studios
in Atlanta doing period pieces to pay for its upkeep and insurance every year.

I’d buy a beautiful farm in the country with stables or a barn. The stables/barn would then be converted into an epic garage of sorts. The farmland would be converted into a track - I’d hire someone famous to consult on the design. I’d host trackdays with my friends and just enjoy driving.
Once I got tired of my homebase, I’d get one of those giant campers and nice enclosed trailer. I’d take my favorite track car and favorite daily and load them up and travel to track days at all the most amazing courses in the US. I think I could easily spend a year or two doing just that.

Now if only I lived somewhere that film crews came to more than once every 37 years.... (no seriously, there was a movie filmed here in 1981, and that’s probably the last time any production team of any size was here for more than a drive-by.

I'd try and buy every Oppo an NA Miata.

After getting myself a 911R and my wife a Volvo S90 (she’d probably keep her Mini) I’d buy up a fleet of manual... anythings for my kids to drive when they get old enough. Maybe some Imprezas or Civics to start, then a few WRX or TypeR’s.
Then restore my truck, but without changing anything about how it looks. Just improve it mechanically and preserve it in its current state otherwise.

I’d way rather have a playground and a fleet of race cars than a few hyper cars.
I probably would build one crazy amcsr tho, like a group B inspired Countach or something like that. Like is there was a V12 version of groups B.

Atlanta has become quite the Movie and TV show town his 77 Cadillac Sedan has been in Stranger Things, Halt and Catch fire and a few movies.

I would build a giant catapult, so I could launch my wife’s MDX into the sun. I know with that kind of money I could be like Elon Musk, and do a rocket, but a catapult sounds more fun.
After that, it’s pay off the GTI, get my wife a newer, better car/truck/SUV/van/I don’t care as long as it’s not an Acura MDX.
Oh yeah, a place with a four-car garage would be in order.
And a couple motorcycles, I’m really digging those new Honda Rebels and Indian Scouts.
![]() 10/19/2018 at 09:38 |

I would build a private freeway from my house into town so I’d never have to drive on our local roads with the local dum basses ever again.

I’d buy a nice sized property and build a racetrack (maybe a copy of Suzuka) along with a lot large enough to hold automotive gatherings.

I’d probably give a bunch of it away, because even 100 million is more than I’d know what to do with, but I’d build a house and garage in the countryside, with maybe 8 cars, and probably start some kind of car-related business. Definitely travel to Japan and hand-pick something to import.
![]() 10/19/2018 at 10:09 |

A) a house with a large garage
B) all the kei cars I can fit in it
C) a GTC4Lusso to daily.

I’d start with charity too. Buy my dad his dream Wrangler pick up when it come out, but my Mom a couple Jags, my best friend would get a custom Honda Odyssey, he’s a minivan guy. My brother would get a couple Volvo’s new and old, my sister would get an auto EvoX as an Evo has been her dream car since high school but she can’t drive stick, and a new JL for her husband. Oh I’d buy a new base model Honda Fit for my kid which he could drive on our property. Seems safe enough for a 10 year old.

I’ve always wanted to own a pile of mundane cars, and just keep them in original condition. It’s not nearly as hard to find a period-correct running Ferrari from 1980 as it is to find an ‘81 Granada. I’ve watched shows like ‘the Americans’ and thought it would be awesome to have a company that rented out period-correct cars like that. Is there real money in it? Probably not...but as a lottery winner with a stupid amount of cash, what do I care?

First: pay off my current car.
Second: find and buy my mom another 65 mustang fastback. She had one and sold it back around 2009 in order to keep their house. Then I’d take it somewhere to be resto modded. Something turnkey with updated suspension and brakes. Nothing with crazy power but still a v8.
Third: have my E30 and truck professionally restored. Both have been neglected because of life.
Fourth: buy a ND Miata and have it shipped off to Flying Miata and have them throw everything at it.
There’s more of course but I lack time to finish

My friend who does this says there are some big players who have fleets and their own body shops repair facilities etc that are profitable, most of the background cars are just normal people who do it as a hobby to offset some of their expenses of their hobby.

Sure! You’re right in the middle. The thing is, with 500 million, who cares if it’s profitable?
About 20 minutes from me, there’s a huge parcel of land that a guy owns personally - it’s not a business, nor a partnership - and has built miles and miles of nordic ski trails on it. There are huts you can go in, where there might be hot chocolate and/or a bit of heat to thaw out on the cold days, and the trails are all beautifully mapped and also of course groomed. Over the past two summers he’s also built an entire network of 100% machine-built mountain bike trails. He has a small staff that does all this work, and they’re paid fair wages - it’s not volunteer.
All open to the public, all free. Because he can.
So there you go, just do that with rally cars. I’ll come.

buy lots of land, build a sweet garage to work on stuff and finish my RX7. And buy a new 6.7 Powerstroke for daily duties. Give plenty away to local charities and such.
Then id invest the rest and buy my fam some cool stuff

Th e first priority would be buying a big farm somewhere in rural Alberta, maybe Strathcona County, and a villa in Switzerland and escaping this increasingly violent and unstable country. Cars would come later.
Actually, Alberta might be too crowded, maybe the Northwest Territories would be better.
